A Bright Transformation

Bringing Spring to the Shops.

Time to update for a new season 🙂

How great is it to have more daylight later in the evening?!  It’s so nice to be walking my dog without a flashlight handy! I have been loving seeing our surroundings slowly changing to a brighter, happier, renewing time.  When my good friend, Sabrina, asked me to help her “Spring-Up” her store that she co-owns with her business partner in Santa Monica, I was thrilled! My game plan immediately was to add flowers (of course), bright greens, and complimentary fresh colors.

Sabrina informed me that the Pantone colors of the year are Illuminating yellow and Ultimate gray. So, yellow was definitely going to be in the mix.  I decided to pair a coral color with the yellow as the two main pops of color to highlight throughout the store.

I re-used a copper utensils holder that I used once before in a fresh flower arrangement I made for Sabrina when she first opened her new location.  I’m definitely a fresh flower kind of girl and as a general rule, shy away from faux flowers.  However, in a store, you will go crazy trying to upkeep fresh flowers and replace them every few days.  No one has time for that maintenance. I made a faux flower arrangement in the copper container that Sabrina won’t have to worry about until the next season comes along! I used dry floral foam in the container to stick the flowers in and hold them firmly in place.I chose these large flower heads so they would be really dramatic and I only needed like nine stems total to create a beautiful, full arrangement.

There were four basic areas that I needed to pay attention to in order to update her store into the Spring season.

The first area was the feature wall behind the cashier desk that everyone stares at when they are making purchases.  That’s where I added this flower arrangement in the copper pot to match her store color palette and colors of Spring.  In addition, I added a bright green garland that definitely took the Spring vibe up a few notches.

The second area of the store that needed Spring renewal was the storefront windows.  Her windows are not very big and she has displays that take up half the area, and so all I did was hang one Spring wreath in one window and a few strands of flower heads in the other.  It was very simple but all that was needed. I also added a bright yellow tulip arrangement onto one of the window display tables.

To make the floral strands, I used hot glue, natural jute twine, and faux flower heads. I carefully wrapped the twine once around the cut stem and used the hot glue gun to adhere it. I used a chopstick to hold the twine in place while the glue was hot. I laid out the twine on the floor and placed the flower heads spaced out in a staggered pattern.

The third area of the store that I focused on to add some Spring color was the existing large vase arrangements that Sabrina already had in her store.  To one of them, I added white and dark pink faux cherry blossom branches.

In another vase, I added several stems of this funky seed pod type branch. It’s such a unique branch that I think looks really cool! The bright green leaves with the peachy color of the seed pods scream Spring!

In a third vase, I added bright yellow Forsythia branches to the existing faux seeded eucalyptus. The green and yellow paired really nicely together and became really big and full.

The fourth area that I updated was adding some bright green garland, some bright green plants, and a few of the large yellow and coral flower heads on the shelves and around the store.  The store is on the darker side because of the super cool slate/dark teal color of the walls. So, all of these little touches added up to the bright, cheery, colorful, Spring change that the store needed to welcome a new, refreshing season.

Allow me to go off on a tangent for a moment. Sabrina’s storefront is actually an extension of her amazing cooking school, called The Gourmandise School.  The store and school are located in the heart of Santa Monica, California at the famous Santa Monica Place. I have been lucky enough to take an in person class at her cooking school and the gourmet food I cooked was totally amazing!

The cooking school, as of now, is available online and in-person and my daughter has taken several classes with her friend.  She absolutely learned so much, had so much fun, and cooked amazing meals from scratch! I HIGHLY recommend it for you and your older kids! Check out thegourmandiseschool.com for more info!

Sabrina’s high-end store is full of cool cooking utensils, beautiful and helpful cookbooks, local organic ingredients, pretty dishes and cookware, and so much more!  Check it out when you are in the area!  I had a great time collaborating with my friend to bring her store into a welcoming new Spring season!

Good job Debsie, your friends shop sounds great. Interesting that you can use faux flowers to make a nice arrangement. ❤
