We are always looking for a reason to celebrate…am I right?! It’s getting together with family and friends that makes us all happy. It’s when we tend to relax and enjoy our company and our surroundings. It’s a time we can be creative with our food, our drinks, our decorations, and our wardrobe (let’s not forget that ;). This is a time that we can put aside our work and our stressful obligations and focus on something else that brings us joy.
Sometimes our celebrations mean something sad had to happen first. I read a quote recently that I think sums up what should be remembered for Memorial Day: “A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself”. Together, we salute all those who have fallen and given their years of service. It is a special time for so many families to remember and celebrate their loved ones. Some get together and share a meal. Some visit gravesites. Whatever your ritual, flowers may play an important part.
Flowers are a symbol of peace, sympathy, beauty, and gratefulness. They are what we turn to as an expression of some of our deepest emotions. We use flowers as a means of extending our most sincere condolences and our greatest joys in life! In addition, we use flowers as a means of adding the finishing touches to our party decorations.
I made an arrangement for our Memorial Day barbeque, and let me tell you it’s not every day that an amazing peony centerpiece makes its way to my outdoor dining table. This Memorial Day barbeque is going to be extra special because of it…wink, wink! The vibrant colors of these huge flower heads make the table look stunning. I paired it with some patriotic flags, and it’s all set for a fantastic gathering.
I hope you have a lovely time with your loved ones this Memorial Day weekend spending quality time with those that mean a lot to you. Let’s remember that so many have done what we couldn’t even imagine. Let’s encourage those still with us. Let’s celebrate together and for Heaven’s sake, let’s not forget the flowers when we are planning the drinks and burgers! Set aside one of your salad bowls for the peonies, people! ~Happy Memorial Day!
