Box of Rose Blooms

A Trendy Flower Arrangement

To Add a bit of flare to your decor!

What I know most about FLOWERS is not all the technical terminology or informational jargon that one might think I should know. Rather what I know most is …what looks AMAZING and how to put it all together! When it comes to flower arranging, I love thinking outside the box…or in this case, inside the box! Some traditional folks might think I’m crazy to cut rose stems off. But I think of it as another way to showcase said beautiful roses. They are just as pretty this way and less, “same old, same old”.  Know what I mean?!

This beauty arrangement will take you literally 10 minutes to create once you have all the materials ready to go. Don’t worry I’ve got you covered.  I’ll show you where to get everything you need from the comfort of your home (simply click on the bold print items listed below)…except the roses.  You will need to go out and find your favorite colored roses…or if you are going to give this as a gift, find the perfect color for your special recipient. In this case, I found these rustic greenish-yellowish cabbage-looking roses at the LA Flower Mart downtown.

Here’s what you will need to create this fun arrangement. 1) A dozen roses. 2) Garden shears 3) Any knife (be careful). 4) Wet floral foam 5) Rectangle wood planter box with liner 6) Green Spanish moss. 7) A bucket, deep bowl, or a sink full of water to soak the brick of floral foam for at least 10 minutes.

After the floral foam has been soaking, measure it up against the container as your guide, and then place the brick on a cutting board and slice it with your knife. In this case, the brick was a little wide so I had to cut about an inch and a half off the full length of it. Once it fits in your container, you will see how much you still need to add. I used about an extra 1- inch by 3-inch piece that I cut from the leftover chunk to fill up the container with foam. Now your container is all ready to start with the roses! NOTE: The container I bought had a plastic liner included. This is really important because if you don’t have a liner, the water will leak through the wood box. If your container does not have a liner, you can create one by using a plastic zip bag, or cellophane to place the floral foam into.

Now the pretty part begins…and it goes really quickly! As you can see, you cut the stem of the rose to about 4 inches. Remove any leaves or brown petals. Then you place the stem into the floral foam about an inch and a half or so. You want to start by placing your first rose in one corner and then simply place the next one right beside it. Repeat this step until all the roses are lined up next to each other creating, essentially, two rows of 6.

Now to add the finishing touch- the green Spanish moss! This is the part that ties the whole thing together, the part that hides any imperfections, the part that gives this arrangement even more of a “WOW” factor! And…it couldn’t be any easier!  Simply pull apart some chunks of moss and place it all around the base of the roses. You can kind of stick it in between the rose stems and this will help to keep the moss in place. Be sure to cover all the floral foam as you don’t want any of the foam to show…EVER!

VOILA! That’s it! I told you it was super easy! YOU can totally do this! You can use any square/rectangle leak-proof container for this arrangement. I’ve even used loaf and cake pans! This would be super lovely as a gift, or to spruce up your office, or beautify your nightstand! The pop of color will make any room pretty and stylish!

Check it out! My great friends, Lorelei and Celeste and I hung out and had a gabfest and created these beauties! They were surprised at how easy it was! Lorelei chose this gorgeous fuchsia-colored rose that was super dramatic and lovely! This is an awesome thing to do for a “girls night in” or a “shower” of some sort. I mean chatting with friends and creating easy, beautiful flower arrangements…it’s so awesome! You should totally do it! Text your friends right now and go get some roses!
