First off…Happy Fourth of July!!! Time to celebrate! Woohoo!! I love gathering with friends and family, and I love decorating for any event! Flowers are a must-have, as far as I’m concerned. Yes, you can choose the right colored napkins and plates and tablecloth, or coordinate glasses, or blow up festive balloons. I love all of that, don’t get me wrong! But, flowers somehow make it all come together. It’s like the cherry on top of your festive decor.
In the photo above, there’s my little doggie, Biscuit, who steals the show…but besides that, I managed to create a red, white, and blue arrangement with some common flowers-the red gerbera daisies, and the white hydrangeas, and a not-so-common blue flower. I thought the blue choice was going to be super hard to find. But good old Trader Joes happened to have these BLUE ERYNGIUM flowers (aka blue thistle or Blue Sea Holly)! They are a super funky flower that is actually, naturally blue!
Because the natural blue-colored flowers are so hard to come by, I decided to do some research. I found out that only 10% of all flowers are naturally derived blue in color. And, many of those “blue” flowers are really actually purple in hue, let’s be honest. In my research, I stumbled across these TOTALLY AMAZING flowers called PASSION FLOWERS! I mean…look at them! What the what?! They look like some kind of sea creature! They come in all kinds of colors…and yes, these naturally occurring red, white, and BLUE ones!
So, I was able to create a festive centerpiece with these flowers. Doesn’t it just add a little “something” to my table-scape? The bucket as the “vase” is super creative and inexpensive…and then it can be used at the beach! I love dual-purpose vases!! I mean, this arrangement would look lovely in a clear glass vase, but why not use something a little more creative?! I LOVE it! Thanks to my friend, Aisha from Katie’s Kreations Events, for supplying me with the fun sand pail and shovel and other festive party supplies!!
I’m always looking for ways to think outside-the-box with my flower arrangements. In this case I thought outside-the-vase! 😉 Ha Ha…so funny, I know. When I was looking at the flowers I got for this arrangement, the red gerbera daisies, the white hydrangeas, and the blue sea holly, I immediately thought of making it a “striped” arrangement as opposed to a typical arrangement with all the flowers mixed in throughout. I think it turned out great- the literal red, white, and blue theme pops! Sometimes clumping a single color together is super dramatic and in this case makes so much sense.
Anyhoo…go out and buy some red, white, and blue flowers and you can create this super cute, festive Fourth of July centerpiece! If you can’t find any blue flowers, (even dyed ones), then simply buy the red and white ones and use a blue pail or accessorize with a blue shovel like I did in my DIY video below! Check it out and prepare to be inspired!! And I hope you have a super fun celebration with your family and friends!! Happy 4th of July!!
