Must Watch…Full Bloom on HBO Max!

Ok…no joke…I’m obsessed with this new (to me) show on HBO Max! It’s called Full Bloom and it is basically a floral competition where florists compete to win prize money- $100 grand! It’s totally an understatement to say that the talent on the show is AMAZING!! It’s unbelievable what these people create with fresh flowers! They somehow manage to produce totally awesome arrangements and really, works of art, with ridiculous requirements, obstacles, time restrictions, and pressure from the judges! The pressure, people! It’s unbearable! I learned some really interesting ideas and tricks of the trade just in the two seasons that have aired. Even if you are not a florist, you will be hooked…just watch the first episode…I dare you!! It’s nail-biting, colorful, lovely, incredibly interesting, insightful, funny, amazing, and I could go on and on!! You have to check it out!

The contestants were challenged with everything from working individually where they let their creativity shine to working in group settings where they were forced to collaborate and design and compromise with their teammates. Each challenge that the judges required was amazing. In one episode, they had to work in a group and replicate a Van Gogh painting…except the canvas was 30 feet tall and had to be made completely out of fresh-cut flowers! In another episode, the final two contestants had to design several rooms in a house using flowers and their crazy floral ideas! It’s just amazing what they came up with!!

The car challenge was so cool! Look at how this VW van exploded with all the amazing flowers! In other episodes, the contestants had to create floral masterpieces suspended in mid-air, or create a tiny arrangement that was no bigger than your fist, or make a 3D art piece covered with flowers. Every episode was totally unique and awe-inspiring!

As I previously mentioned, I learned really cool, helpful information from watching the show. A few of my fav tips are:

1- Use floral spray paint to change the natural color of the flowers. All this time I thought dyed flowers were unnatural and totally taboo. However, after seeing the show, it can actually make the flowers pop and become even more amazing! Floral spray paint can do wonders for enhancing creativity and hone in on a specific theme or particular desired result. Floral spray paint is perfectly safe for even the most delicate of flowers…and you can get it on Amazon!

2- You should totally REFLEX your tulips, roses, and orchids to open them up and let the amazing inside of the flower head be seen! As you can see in my flower arrangement above, reflexing shows off the amazing blue stripes hidden within the purple tulips. Reflexing simply means to press lightly on the back of the petal to invert it. This opens up the bloom and is a super-fast trick to use when big open blooms are necessary in a hurry.

3- You can revive droopy hydrangea! I don’t know about you, but many times I have purchased hydrangea only to find that the next day, the heads are super droopy. Well, I learned that to revive these beauties, simply submerge their big heads in a bucket of cool water for like 5 minutes. Then ever so gently shake them dry, give the stems a fresh cut, and boom!- within hours your hydrangea should be much firmer!

4- Your tulips can last longer, by placing some ice cubes in the water! They will actually close up a bit but hey, if you have reflexed the petals, it’s still going to look amazing, right?! Also, don’t forget that changing the water every day or every other day helps!

There was always an outrageous spread of flowers to choose from, as you can see from the photos.  No shortage of incredible flowers here, people! The way these florists combined and put them together, though, was truly awesome.

I’m definitely inspired and ready to share some cool ideas with you all…so be on the lookout! Check out the season 2 trailer below and get your HBO Max subscription now! It’s a great show to watch with the whole family! If your family or friends love competition shows, they’ll love this one. It’s the prettiest competition show ever!!

Thanks to Tursd.com and HBO Max for the photos.
