Joy For The New Year!

Saying goodbye to the goodness of the old...

2022 I see you and I'm ready to pursue!

Happy New Year!

I’m not gonna lie…I’m feeling a whole lot of mixed emotions about the year we just had, and, I’m feeling a whole lot of mixed emotions about the year we are just starting! I’m blessed, I’m thankful, I’m happy, I’m anxious, I’m annoyed, I’m tired, I’m over “it”, I’m ready! I’m going to do my best to remember the wise words of my dad and, “just try not to worry so much”;)

All we can do is put one foot in front of the other, and allow ourselves the opportunity to stumble and learn and grow and prosper. Let’s hang in there and just do the best we can!

So now that I have shared those amazing thoughts, let me explain that this is, admittedly, a stretch of a flower tangent.  The combination of, I am not 100% ready to leave the holidays behind, and I had the BEST TIME being with my family that I have not seen in person in two years, and that I’m hopeful for this new year, are the inspirations for writing this post.

Nothing “flowery” about this pic of my doggie, Biscuit…just liked it and thought I’d share;) He is, however, in love with my color scheme…shades of turquoise, gold, and red.

Trees! Trees are plants…and flowers come from plants. That’s the connection, that’s my FLOWER TANGENT! Before I pack it all up, I’m going to show you some of the tree decorations I had up for the holidays- the holidays I’m not ready to clean up after! I’ll miss the pretty decor, the cheery little lights, and the feeling of something special. Sigh.

I used to do a real tree…and then I found this cute Charlie Brown tree which is perf for this small space. The super-bright berry light bulbs are fantastic and I LOVE that you can see every single ornament AND I can use the gigantic ones without fear of wilting branches! This fun tree paired with a pine-scented candle from Joanna Gaines, and I don’t miss a real tree one bit 😉

One of the decorations that made me happiest to look at 500 times a day this holiday, was this tree “crescendo” on my piano. In case you didn’t know, crescendo in musical terms means: a gradual increase in volume of a musical passage. As an analogy, the trees arranged in this fashion lining the opening of my piano lid kind of makes me think of the old year at the “quietest/shortest” part…graduating to the “loudest/tallest” big, open NEW YEAR bursting with lots of opportunities! Let’s do this, people!!

On a total side note, (or TANGENT  because I’m really good at that), I’m a big fan of cluster decorating…(not to be confused with clutter decorating ;)).  In cluster decorating, you group several of one type of object together thereby enhancing their beauty! I could have totally done this cool design using snowmen, or nutcrackers, or ornament balls. But my thing is flowers, so trees make more sense…am I right?!

My mantel display donned many a tree too! In my opinion, you can’t go wrong with trees. I like that they represent nature. There’s so many DIY’s out there on how to decorate trees for any occasion, really. Finding trees at your favorite craft or home decor stores is superabundant. There’s so many to choose from I often find myself constantly having to make decisions about which I MUST have…because I can’t have them all!

I’m going to do a 180 and share this last tangent about trees…escorting you from inside my quaint humble abode, to the vast, breathtaking western Canadian outdoors!

On our trip to the Great White North, I found myself mesmerized by the beautiful snow-covered…you guessed it…TREES! I snapped a few pics so I can be reminded of them often! I miss my old stomping grounds so much! But I miss the peeps standing in front of this winter wonderland of trees way more! I LOVE YOU, amazing family! I’m so blessed to be a part of this crazy bunch!

As I’m packing up all my glittery tree decorations to place in their green holiday bins for another 330 days or so, I’m left feeling a bit remorseful and a lot thankful as the old “year” has come to an end. But unlike these pretty but, mostly meaningless objects, being with my amazingly SOULFUL family gives me hope, renewed energy, and for sure tons of laughter for a great year to come! Time for me to find new trees to decorate with and follow the ever-abundant green trees up to see my family before too long!

I hope you have a lot to be excited about!  Cherish the old, and make room for JOY in the new!

HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone!
